There's a couple groups that are working on wallet authorized messaging. The latest announcement I found was https://solanews.medium.com/cross-chain-messaging-standard-created-by-solana-based-team-up-ef400f3ba95f Also, there are a couple of setups for email forwarding where a mail server is created with a custom ens domain resolution. It requires sending an email to a specific domain with the ens name as the first part of the to: address, and then it looks up the ens name, sees if it has an email address listed on the ens domain, and then sends email to that particular email. Definitely a bit clunky and it allows whomever is hosting to have access to the emails being sent, but it's an interesting project. https://golangexample.com/email-for-the-ethereum-name-service/
It seems like the answer is, "not yet." I see that Unstoppable Domains has been offering a centralized (Web2 style) email service but only for the .crypto extension and if you own the domain, myname.crypto, then the email address is [email protected], which seems totally unsatisfying. I see here from this 2020 YouTube video in the discussion that Unstoppable is saying, "yes, but it's going to take a while." https://youtu.be/VAw4dSVsmkY
I’m thinking if you have an ENS name, then you can buy a website for you ENS name. Websites usually come with an email address, so your email address would be you@[ensname.domain] Does that make sense? Also, while this isn’t an option for email, there’s an all-in-one browser/messenger/wallet app called Status. It’s pretty cool.
