For Community Managers, What are your KPI's and how do you keep track that you're doing something effective?
Been a community manager for a few months now but I still feel lacking because I'm not measuring anything. And I want to improve that. :/ If you could provide tools or anything that you also use, that would really help. Thank you!

Here a couple of things you want to keep track of: 1. Number of users The number of members is undoubtedly one of the most important KPIs for community managers, and you should always keep an eye on it. Ideally, you will observe a steady growth here. Temporary stagnation or even slight declines are usually no reason to panic. However, if the number of community members continues to decline over a longer period of time, you should increasingly implement measures to build up the community and promote member engagement. 2. Engagement The engagement of an online community is measured, among other things, by the discussions, comments, shares, retweets and re-posts. Therefore, this metric is one of the KPIs for community managers, which refers to communities that are no longer under construction, but already have a lively exchange. The engagement KPI shows you how much impact your content has on online community members. Discussions can be measured both objectively and subjectively. Objectively, you can track the sheer number of posts commented on and the number of comments. In subjective measurement, you go deeper by assessing the substance of those interactions. Comments are key to measuring engagement. As a community manager, your goal is to build relationships. Comments are the best indicator of how engaged your members are. 3. Referral traffic Referral traffic tells you how members came to the community platform. If you can correlate your high-performing content with an increase in traffic, you'll gain insight into the effectiveness of your user acquisition efforts. 4. Number of new members If you want your online community to thrive, you can't just focus on the current total number of users, you need to keep an eye on the number of new users joining each month. 5. The number of page views and time-on-page. These are traditional metrics from the marketing field. However, page views and the time users spend on the community platform are among the most important KPIs for community managers. The higher these KPIs are, the greater the interest in your community. 6. Active members Like the number of new members, this KPI specifies the more general KPI of the total number of members. However, here you only look at the active members and sort out those users who have only registered without participating in the events within the community. To comprehensively measure the success of your activities as a community manager, you should consider as many KPIs as possible. Based on these numbers, you can develop strategies that address where they are needed. If there are already many active members in the community, but a declining number of new members, you should focus on attracting new users instead of member engagement. If you observe a steadily growing number of new users but a declining time-on-page, your focus should be on keeping users on the platform, a balancing act. To develop successful strategies, you should always be guided by these KPIs for community managers, not by beliefs and vague assumptions. Hope that helps :)
