Hey I've noticed that airdrops are a daunting task for a newbie, is there a playbook to follow? tips on how much you should spend if there is a need to purchase tokens?

This depends entirely on the type of airdrop. In general the best way to approach airdrops is to pay close attention to the official communication about the airdrop from the project or organization that is airdropping something to users. Make sure that the communication is real (it's from the actual project) and pay attention to the steps needed to claim. Most airdrops require some kind of action to claim them. Whether it's safe to claim a specific airdrop is something the web3 community can usually answer, so my strategy is always to check reputable Twitter users that do security analysis of airdrops and listen to their advice on whether something is secure or not. Asking your friends in the space is also a good thing to do. Be careful when interacting with airdrops and always make sure to verify in multiple ways that the airdrop is real and safe to claim. Examples of Twitter users that provide good information about security in the web3 space: https://twitter.com/0xQuit https://twitter.com/zachxbt https://twitter.com/0xCygaar Any airdrop that requires you to spend anything to get it sounds dubious to me. Ideally, the airdrop should be a positive surprise that rewards users of actions they have already done (like trade NFTs up until before the airdrop announcement, for example). Lastly, keep in mind that airdrops means people get something for free. Whenever people get something for free, they might try to sell it. If enough people that got the airdrop go ahead and sell it, the price (and therefore value) of that airdrop will trend towards zero. This is also an argument for never spending money to get an airdrop.
